Timeline of the Potlatch Conflict

Bill Holm, Professor Emeritus at the Burke Museum, and friend of the Kwakwaka'wakw community, describes the end of the ban in a personal interview: "In 1951 the provisions of the Indian Act which covered all of this was dropped. They didn't repeal them, they just dropped them. They left them out. And the Indians were a little bit sore about that because they felt it should be more official." The potlatch battle seemed won, but there was one victory yet to be achieved.
