The Treaty Trail: Isaac Stevens' Treaty Councils 1854-1856
Online Activities: In Their Own Words

Nowadays we are bombarded with daily television images of famous national leaders—giving speeches, visiting foreign nations, and kissing babies. But 150 years ago, photography was relatively rare, and sound recording and moving pictures didn't yet exist. As a result, we have very few images, and limited written records, from which to draw conclusions about what happened in events of national importance, such as Stevens' Treaty Expedition.

IN THEIR OWN WORDS attempts to partially bridge this gap by utilizing the magnificient drawings of Gustav Sohon, photos of dignitaries, and the written records that exist from that time, to paint a picture of the times.
